Stages Of Healing In A Burn

When I had my second thermal burn , in 2015 (my hand) I wanted to avoid the hospital. and I tried to check online for healing stages but I couldn’t find anything except pictures of burns that were infected or otherwise not healing well. Doing what I thought best without direction was stressful but I believed that it would heal without graft surgery and it did. Also with that burn (on my hand) 2 doctors and a burn unit team told me that it would not heal without surgery but it did.

The burn on my heel in 2018 was less stressful but no less miraculous and amazing. I didn’t bother going to a hospital this time. I knew it would heal. And I knew how the healing stages would look better than the doctors would know because i saw this heal before. I said here we go again and it healed beautifully.

Just God and me, and my family, saw it heal up. I would like to show the healing stages to encourage others what healing looks like. Below you see my right foot heel.

Thermal burn discovered 2 days after it happened. Paralysis is my condition and the foot was unknowingly burned due to trapped heat it was laying on. Blister was broken by the time we found it
Clean and covered with sylvadine, changing bandage daily, healing began
A few days later. Skin building in the middle. Looks great!
After a week or so new skin is building. I did soak with Epsom salt in a clean new bucket and wrap it fresh daily. Looks great. Yellow new skin building can look threatening but if the area is not hot this is a great healing look!
New layers looking great. Wound is closing . Don’t be alarmed by yellow crusty stuff. Scabbing process is good an keep it covered and with triple antibiotic gel daily. Bandage well. Ok to soak in warm Epsom salt water for 20 minutes then apply antibiotic ointment and wound dressing bandage. I changed mine daily. Pray pray pray and say” it looks great” out loud.

The body repairs itself amazingly well if we keep it free from infection. Here the skin became a bit too moist but the blood vessels around the wound were rebuilding like a factory! 2 months is a usual timing for complete healing but appearance will still smooth out for a year.

Skin like new is something of a miracle no matter who you ask.

You can read about the hand thermal burn on another blog, pictures included. It’s a miracle according to the Ann Arbor Michigan Burn unit who assessed it as requiring surgery, as I said. The blog is called Convincing Myself Of The Truth
