What’s The Deal With Healing Verses?

cropped-jerry-seinfeld1.jpgWhat’s the deal with healing verses? What’s it all about? Logic and reason are desperate to know the reason we are obsessing with God’s Word.  If my mind has to be bored and sit on a shelf while my spirit is engaging in spiritual exercises, the Mind wants me to explain why I’m spending so much time without it! “There are several factors at work you see, Mr Mind, that make healing verses a priority.” I’ve spent hours listening to and speaking healing verses as some sort of magical power for my body’s benefit whilst my mind says “This is stupid!  What’s the use?  What is this doing?”  The same thing happens while I pray in tongues, but that’s another blog to come.  When you are engaged in very spiritual activities, your logical mind is starving for information.  The Bible says that the natural mind cannot understand  the spirit for it seems to be foolishness.  Our logic is part of “our flesh” and the natural mind does not understand the things of the spirit.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor 2:14

This is why we must renew our minds when we become born-again.  The new spirit-man has moved in and the flesh has a new boss.  The natural mind was like a god until the person decided the mind needed help.   Once a person surrenders to God, he has invited Him in and his  spirit-man is joined with God.  Now the person’s “flesh” or mind, has taken a backseat.  When the mind is left out and disengaged while the Spirit is engaged, the mind rises up in rebellion until you make it sit down.  The born-again spirit man is already saved and perfect, it knows all things.  The mind/soul/flesh will put up a fight. Once the mind is convinced of the truth, the body will follow.  Therefore it is imperative that we renew our minds with the truth of God’s word so that our bodies may begin being renewed day by day.   God’s Word is health onto our flesh by way of convincing.   Our mind is connected to our heart and our spirit is also connected to our heart.  The heart is a combination of the mind and spirit.  Once our spirit and mind agree, things manifest into the natural realm. Aha!  The truth that you understand sets you free.

Andrew Wommack says it like this:

Philemon 6 says, “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” This verse makes it clear that your faith becomes effectual (starts working) by knowing the good things in your spirit. You could turn that verse around and not change the meaning by saying that if you don’t know what’s taken place in your spirit man, your faith won’t work.

Now we can also override the mind that doesn’t understand, by believing without knowledge.  This avenue requires childlike faith.  Childlike faith happens when the mind does not know but the heart is soft enough to believe anyway.  If the mind can agree with the spirit then we have manifestation into our flesh.  Believing = receiving.  Jesus said “if you can believe, all things are possible.”  However knowing that something is true does not convince your heart immediately.  The born-again spirit believes all truth and knows all things, according to the Bible.  So that part is done. What we have in our spirit will affect our flesh when we are fully convinced of God’s good character.

Rom. 4: 21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Finally after years of pursuing healing and studying faith I believe I understand the reason we need to use “healing verses.” We first learned about the use of confessing Bible verses by  Ephesians 6:17.and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” Using Bible verses as a spiritual sword is one of the greatest tools for any believer’s life.  We found out that God’s Word is a force that cuts through lies and resists the enemy to make him flee.   Charles Capps does a marvelous job of explaining the power of our words and the power of confessing God’s Word daily.  His booklets  on  God’s Creative Power are fundamental to any Christian walk of faith.  However even after years of confessing God’s word, as medicine, I am beginning to see just how it works.  Speaking God’s Words are not only powerful spiritually, they are necessary to convince and persuade my mind of God’s good character.  I’ve just noticed that healing verses are full of reasons why we should trust in God’s goodness.  Acting as a defense attorney for God, we use his word as a character witness to the jury of our hearts.  The reason we suffer from any sickness, injury, infirmity or pain is directly related to our doubt of God’s goodness.  The  unbelief we specifically struggle with in our hearts is God’s character.  Sovereignty thinkers believe in God’s prerogative to withhold healing as part of his “goodness,” but any child knows that withholding healing is not a character trait that we should trust.  If a doctor held back healing, he would be an evil doctor. Healing is good, sickness is bad.  Read the curses and blessings in Deuteronomy 28 through 30.  God  defines curses as death and blessings as life.  He even gives us a choice and tells us to choose life instead of death.  John 10:10 tells us that satan comes only to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and that more abundantly.  Jesus came to give us the opportunity to have blessings. We have that opportunity when we believe.  So as you read verses regarding healing, realize that your goal is to become fully persuaded that God is good.  That is the goal.  After all if “God did not spare his only son but sent Him to die for us, why then would he not freely give us all things?”  This verse is an attempt to convince, persuade and prove God’s character as good.  Why is this a healing verse?  It is a healing verse because healing requires that you agree with God’s goodness.  Those who act amazed when healing happens are showing their astonishment at God’s goodness.  If we were convinced that God is good we would not be surprised by healing and blessings when they come.  Trying to make yourself believe and expect miracles is an attempt to believe that God wants good things for you.  If you’ve had painful things happen to you, your heart has been brainwashed into believing God is responsible and unwilling to heal or bless.  How then can we convince our hearts that he really is good?  By listening to and confessing out of our mouth God’s goodness, faith will rise and healing flows.  It’s almost scientific!  It’s a faith formula.  You are a character witness for God; you are His advocate.  You must be willing to have an answer for the accuser of the brethren, the accuser of God.  We must be defenders of the Almighty.  And the answer will always be God’s word.  So use His word as a sword against the questioning of God’s character in your heart.  Let these verses not be merely words but let them be answers to the questions that lurk buried in your heart.   God’s word will be a surgical tool/sword, a gardening tool/sword to cut away the lies planted there by the accuser. Weeds and thistles have grown in the soil of your heart, crowding out the truth that God cares for you and He’s there for you.

Some say we doubt due to feelings of unworthiness in ourselves, thus blocking our receptors. This condemnation is actually faith in our badness rather than faith in God’s grace and good nature.  Although that may be a true problem for some, there’s more. The simple lack of answer to the questions in your heart will cause faith or belief in the lie that God is not faithful. Unanswered prayer, abuse, lack of healing, neglect, death, or suffering without answers will cause a belief that God is not good, He is unfaithful, uncaring, unwilling and unable. Faith for these lies will counter faith for healing. A double-minded man will not receive anything so deal with the questions. Defend God to the courtroom of your heart until you persuade yourself that God wants all men well; all the promises of God are answered yes; God cares for you; He wills to heal everyone; He is willing and able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think.

healing-versesMichigan Healing Verses 1 and 2  are collections of photos taken by Mark Suszek of Hisability In Focus  in Michigan combined with our favorite collection of healing verses set to music (and without music). We value the power of these verses so much, we wanted to make them available as stimulating and interesting for our minds as well as our spirits.
