Paul’s Thorn – The Grace Translation

2 Cor 12:7-9 is the famous scripture about Paul’s thorn in the flesh “My grace is sufficient for you,” which typically is viewed to mean “God sometimes says no.”  However in context with God’s nature and reputation, His promises are all “yes and amen.” (2 Cor 1:20) As a spiritual defense attorney for God, I must point out my Client’s character. He healed everyone who believed He could. Nobody was told “sorry, it’s not My timing yet.” Nobody ever begged Jesus three times to remove their sickness and was told “nope, you’ll have to deal with it.” Jesus also never said “I’ll give you the grace to suffer through this.”

Therefore, I submit to the jury of Bible readers of today that this verse is saying:

My grace is the provision for your success or your healing. Go for it! You already have the grace you need, apply your faith! My power is sufficient for every need and it flows through you. Stop asking Me to remove this thorn (whatever it was, persecution or health) I rejoice therefore when I encounter trials because Christ has given me the power to conquer them! GBT (Grace Bible Translation, if it existed)

Now read it with Grace glasses:

“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”  KJV

Notice that God works miracles ACCORDING TO OUR FAITH:  “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Eph 3:20 – His ability in us.
